Legal Help For Reinstating Your New York Driver’s License

If your license was revoked for traffic offenses, your driving privileges are not automatically restored when your revocation period ends. You must apply for license reinstatement and convince the state of New York to let you back on the road.

The Law Office of Lynne A. Papazian, located in Albany County, can guide you through the reinstatement process and represent you in any legal proceedings. We know how important it is to be able to legally drive again, and our attorney can help you get your license restored as soon as possible.

Reinstatement After License Revocation

A revoked license usually means you were convicted of DWI, a serious traffic offense, multiple traffic offenses, driving while suspended, driving without insurance, or causing a major accident.

Having your license revoked is not the same as having your license temporarily suspended. Revocation means your driver’s license has been canceled. You must start over and obtain a new license.

As your lawyer, we will guide you through the steps and help you meet the requirements. You must first request permission to apply for a new license from the Driver Improvement Unit of the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). You cannot apply for reinstatement until your revocation period is over.

Getting Your Ducks In A Row

To be eligible, your fines and fees must be paid up and you cannot be serving any current suspensions. Several fees may apply, depending on why your license was revoked:

  • A suspension termination fee (if applicable)
  • A driver civil penalty if your license was revoked for alcohol-related reasons or uninsured driving
  • A driver responsibility assessment for convictions for certain traffic offenses
  • A license reinstatement fee

It’s all confusing and expensive, and failure to pay fines or surcharges can trigger additional penalties or license suspension. Our attorneys will help you sort it out and address any outstanding issues that prevent you from getting your license back.
